Nike saw an opportunity for increased brand recognition through aligning with elite football programs. Now every program, elite or not, has an apparel sponsor. Nike has historically dominated the college football market, and the swoosh is the norm. Today, Adidas and Under Armour vie with Nike to align with top teams across the country.
Nike won last season with Florida State taking the national championship, and the brand is winning the preseason Top 25 in 2014. Eighteen programs wear the swoosh, while Adidas sponsors four and Under Armour sponsors three.
