Eugenie Bouchard has parted ways with Lagardère Unlimited and has hired WME-IMG to be her management team. Her team will now be led by mega-agent Jill Smoller, who also represents Serena Williams. However, this move has off-the-court implications for the rising 20-year-old star.
With this new deal, Bouchard becomes a client of IMG Models, which represents Gisele Bundchen among other high-profile models. Bouchard has already been in several magazine shoots, and she will work closely with that division to expand her presence in the fashion industry.
The move to WME-IMG is also timely because Bouchard’s deal with Nike is nearing its end. According to Sports Business Daily, since her finals run at Wimbledon earlier this year, she has not received any new sponsorship opportunities. She has already had several offers from Nike to extend her contact, and now with the leverage of Smoller and WME-IMG, it is likely that Bouchard’s new deal will be more lucrative.
Her contract with Lagardère expired officially in October and the firm was unable to match the deal WME-IMG offered, which included commissions below 10 percent and hiring her Bouchard’s mother to work on her team. The deal with Lagardère included 15-20 percent commissions.
