11 most expensive player transactions from soccer's summer transfer window

Soccer’s summer transfer window is officially closed and the deadline spurred the usual flurry of last-minute transactions. The most active club was the wealthy, and currently floundering, Manchester United, who bought Daley Blind from Ajax and loaned Radamel Falcao from Monaco for a reported $24 million and $9 million respectively.

The moves capped a busy summer for new Manchester United boss Luis van Gaal, who’s tasked with revamping a roster that turned in a seventh-place finish in the Premier League last year. The club sold Danny Welbeck to Arsenal at the deadline for $26 million to make room for all the roster turnover.

The major deadline deals pale in comparison to the marquee moves over the course of the entire summer transfer window. Below are the 11 most expensive player transactions from this year’s summer window, with their reported transfer fees.
